Sui Ecological New Star Walrus: Innovative Storage Solutions Leading the Web3 Storage Revolution
Sui ecosystem launches innovative Decentralization storage solution Walrus
Recently, a new Decentralization storage network called Walrus has attracted industry attention. This project is launched by the development team behind Sui, aiming to provide more efficient and reliable storage solutions for the Web3 ecosystem.
The core team of Walrus consists of developers who previously participated in the blockchain project Diem at Facebook(, now Meta). They position Walrus as a protocol platform built on Sui, utilizing Sui to coordinate the management of storage space and metadata. It is worth noting that using Walrus does not require applications to be deployed on Sui, and Walrus will issue an independent governance token, WAL.
In terms of technological innovation, Walrus has launched a new 2D coding algorithm called RedStuff. This algorithm is designed for Byzantine fault tolerance, based on the principle of fountain codes, combining fast operation and high reliability. RedStuff encodes data into primary and secondary slices through simple XOR operations and distributes them across network nodes. This design enables the system to quickly reconstruct the original data even if a large number of data slices are lost, while maintaining a low replication factor of (4-5 times ).
Compared to traditional full replication systems and Reed-Solomon coding, Walrus's solution has significant advantages in storage efficiency, recovery speed, and scalability. It can support hundreds of storage nodes and ensures data recovery in the case of Byzantine faults.
In addition, Walrus has also designed an efficient committee reconfiguration protocol and an asynchronous challenge protocol to address node loss and validate data storage conditions. Its economic model is based on a staking mechanism, combined with a reward and punishment system, while the innovative storage certification mechanism can scale logarithmically with the number of stored files.
The emergence of Walrus has brought new ideas and possibilities to the field of Decentralization storage. With the testnet about to be launched, the industry is generally optimistic about the development prospects of this project. For potential users and investors, it may be wise to pay attention to Walrus's subsequent progress and possible token issuance plans.
