This article delves into the rapid growth of Web3 games Notcoin and Catizen within the TON blockchain ecosystem and their contribution to the surge in TON’s market value. It analyzes Web3 games as a key entry point for mass adoption and the active participation and expansion of major blockchains in the gaming sector. Special attention is given to Ronin and Polygon, which host the majority of activity, and other blockchains like Klaytn, Arbitrum, Immutable, Sui, Starknet, Manta Network, Linea, Saga, Tabi Chain, and Oasys, which are actively developing and offering incentive programs in the Web3 gaming field. The article also highlights partnerships between blockchains and Web2 giants and how they drive the growth of the gaming ecosystem through innovative Web3 games and incentive funds.

Forward the Original Title: Web3 Games Are Rising On The TON Blockchain. Which Other Blockchains Are Also Expanding In The Blockchain Gaming Sector?

Since March, the price and market value of TON tokens have been steadily rising. As of May 22, TON’s market value reached approximately $22 billion, an increase of over 155% since early March. The rapid growth of TON’s market value can be significantly attributed to its ecosystem’s mini-games, such as Notcoin and Catizen.

According to Jack Booth, TON Foundation’s Marketing Director, Notcoin users grew to 35 million within nearly three months. The Notcoin token (NOT) recently listed on exchanges like Binance and OKX, reaching a market value of $820 million within just an hour.

Catizen, another TON ecosystem mini-game, has attracted nearly 6 million players as of May 17, with around 500,000 daily active users, 260,000 on-chain users, and over 2 million on-chain transactions.

Web3 games are a crucial entry point for mass adoption and remain an important focus for major blockchains. While TON has gained significant traction through Web3 social mini-games, which other blockchains have active gaming users and are actively expanding in the gaming sector?

Ronin Remains a Leader in the Space, With Klaytn Seeing a Significant Increase in Active Users on Its Blockchain.

According to DappRadar, Web3 games reached nearly 3 million daily active wallet addresses in April, setting a record high. Ronin and Polygon remain the two blockchains hosting the majority of this activity.

Ronin, an EVM-compatible gaming blockchain built by Axie Infinity’s development team Sky Mavis, has secured its leading position mainly through the hit Web3 game Pixels. In April, Ronin’s daily unique active wallets (dUAW) exceeded 790,000, a 45% increase from March. Ronin has also partnered with several renowned global game studios, including Directive Games, Bali Games, and Tribes Studio.

Polygon, once one of the most popular blockchains for gaming, had over 557,000 dUAW in April and hosts well-known games like Matr1x and QORPO WORLD. However, it faces challenges with Web3 games migrating away from its network. Since Pixels moved from Polygon to Ronin late last year, the card game Zoids Wild Arena TCG by South Korean developer ACT Games has also shifted from Polygon to Ronin.

In January, Crypto UnICOrns announced its move to Arbitrum’s Xai network due to rising gas fees on Polygon, which increased operational costs and negatively impacted the player experience. In March, South Korean game company Nexon revealed that the blockchain version of MapleStory, MapleStory Universe, would transition from Polygon to Avalanche.

In April, the metaverse-focused blockchain Klaytn achieved a 202% growth rate, driven by the metaverse game Another World.

Founded by the prominent South Korean company Kakao, Klaytn plans to complete its merger with Line’s blockchain project Finschia by the end of June and launch a new mainnet named Kaia. This merger aims to create the largest Web3 ecosystem in Asia.

Multiple Blockchain Platforms Plan to Launch Web3 Game Incentive Funds

Arbitrum

In March, the Arbitrum Foundation announced a gaming incentive proposal, planning to invest 200 million ARB tokens (approximately $400 million) over two years to promote gaming projects on its blockchain. The proposal was set to begin on-chain voting on May 24.

Additionally, Arbitrum is advancing the development of Layer3 gaming chains. Following XAI, Polychain Monsters has launched a game-specific chain based on Arbitrum Orbit through Altlayer.

Immutable

Immutable, another gaming-specific chain, recently announced the launch of a $50 million Web3 gaming reward program. The ecosystem is currently focused on developing over 270 games, including notable projects like Illuvium and MetalCore.

Furthermore, Immutable, King River Capital, and Polygon Labs have jointly launched a $100 million “Inevitable Games Fund,” combining their expertise in gaming and blockchain to seek and invest in promising game studios and Web3 infrastructure.

Sui

Sui, similar to the TON blockchain, is partnering with traditional Web2 giants to drive the development of the Web3 gaming ecosystem.

Sui recently announced a partnership with BytePlus, a subsidiary of ByteDance, focusing on games and socialfi. BytePlus provides services such as content distribution, personalization, and AR technology to support Sui’s developers and promote global application development.

Starknet

Starknet established a gaming committee in March, composed of six experts tasked with promoting gaming growth on Starknet. The committee’s role includes analysis, strategic planning, and recommending initiatives to expand Starknet’s gaming ecosystem, measured by metrics such as daily active users, retention rates, and revenue. Starknet also donated 2 million STRK tokens to support the blockchain metaverse game Realms.World.

Manta Network

Recently, Elfin, a gaming project backed by Binance Labs, announced its integration into the Manta Network ecosystem. Elfin plans to deploy multiple game projects on the Manta Pacific chain and build game Layer3 based on Manta.

Linea

Linea launched the Web3 game mission Linea Park in late February on its Layer2 network. In April, during the Linea Park Web3 game mission, 48 million tasks were completed, with 1.48 million participating users and 7.9 million visiting users.

Saga

Saga, a modular one-click chain platform for the gaming industry based on Cosmos, launched its mainnet in April and subsequently listed on Binance. Saga previously announced the establishment of the Saga Origins Web3 game distribution department to release games for the Saga Layer-1 blockchain protocol.

Tabi Chain

Tabi Chain, a gaming blockchain built on Cosmos, launched its testnet in March and recently announced an airdrop of 800 million TABI tokens to participants in the Voyager event, GG holders, public sale participants, Captain node holders, ecosystem project builders, and testnet contributors.

Oasys

Oasys is also a blockchain designed specifically for gaming. Recently, Oasys announced strategic partnerships with the South Korean game developer Com2uS and Metabora SG, Kakao’s Web3 game division. Additionally, the blockchain version of the popular Japanese soccer manga “Captain Tsubasa” has been officially launched on Oasys.

Nim Network

Nim Network, built on Dymension, a blockchain for AI games, launched its mainnet on May 1. Nim Network also introduced staking features. Previously, Nim Network initiated the AI Game Alliance, with projects like Avail from the Polygon modular blockchain, decentralized data sharing protocol OceanProtocol, the on-chain competition platform JokeRace, and the Web3 social simulation game Today joining the alliance.
